Tesla Model Y Juniper or older Model Y: how to tell which one you have

How to tell a 2025 Juniper Model Y from the earlier Model Y before you ask for a body part, and what to send if you are not sure.

The short answer

Check the year on your car documents and look at the rear of the car. Our catalogue lists the earlier Model Y as 2021 to 2024 and the Juniper as 2025 onwards. If the rear has one light bar joining both tail lamps, it is most likely the newer car. Send photos if you are not sure.

Why it matters for parts

The Juniper is a refreshed Model Y. Lamps, bumpers and trims can differ between the two, so a part for one may not suit the other. We do not guess from the name Model Y alone.

Which year is my car?

Look at the year of manufacture or first registration on your car documents. Build month can matter near the change-over, so give the month and year if you have them.

What can I see from outside?

Stand behind the car. The earlier Model Y has two separate tail lamps. The Juniper usually shows a light bar running across the tailgate between them. At the front, the Juniper usually has a slimmer headlamp and a light bar across the nose. These are quick clues, not proof.

What should I send us?

Send the model name, the build month and year, the part and the side, plus one photo of the whole rear and one of the whole front. If a part is already off the car, add a photo of its back.

Does this apply to the Model 3?

Yes, in the same way. We list the earlier Model 3 as 2021 to 2023 and the Highland as 2023 onwards. The same checks apply. Send the build month and year, and photos.

What happens next?

We compare your photos with the part and confirm fitment before we reply. If the two versions do share a part, we say so. If they do not, we say that too. See the Tesla Model Y and Model Y Juniper pages.

FAQ

How do I tell a Juniper Model Y from an older Model Y?

Check the year on your car documents. Our catalogue lists the earlier Model Y as 2021 to 2024 and the Juniper as 2025 onwards. A light bar joining both tail lamps at the rear usually points to the newer car.

Can I use an older Model Y part on a Juniper?

Not safely assumed. Lamps, bumpers and trims can differ between the two, so we confirm fitment from your photos and build date before quoting.

What should I send to get a quote?

The model, build month and year, the part and the side, and photos of the whole front or rear of the car.
